Testimonials

“I was pleasantly surprised to feel like The Blended Blueprint was completely speaking to me and putting words to the issues happening in our family. It gave me a whole new understanding to what I was experiencing as a bio-parent and how walk the fine line between my new wife and my kids.”

– Walter | Palo Alto

“We went through the pre-martial [Blended Blueprint] course for 6 weeks with six 1:1 sessions and we feel much more aligned heading into our marriage. My husband learned how to support me [stepparent], in regards to managing my hurt emotions his children can accidently create, and I now understand what supporting his parenting means. We feel we get the reality of blending a family and are more prepared to meet the challenges. We’ve already purchased The Brief Blended Blueprint as resource to have in our back-pockets for the future. Thank you, Julee!”

– Tina | Huntington Beach

“Wow! I’ve never felt so validated. Someone actually understands what I am going through as a stepparent. The course [Brief Blended blueprint] laid out our family structure and what was happening, it immediately helped me feel better about our marriage and helped align my husband and I on how to handle moving forward.”

FAQs

Is Premarital therapy useful?
  • Premarital education works. In general, the average couple sees a 30% increase in relationship quality and it lowers the annual odds of divorce by 31%.   (References: Jason S. Carroll and William J. Doherty, “Evaluating the Effectiveness of Premarital Prevention Programs: A Meta-Analytic Review of Outcome Research,” Family Relations 52, no. 2 (2003): 105-118; and Scott M. Stanley, et al., “Premarital Education, Marital Quality, and Marital Stability: Findings from a Large, Random, Household Survey,” Journal of Family Psychology 20, no. 1 (March 2006): 117-126.)
  • However, 75% of pre-blended couples get no preparation or specific guidance for their unique family situation (reference: Lawrence Ganong and Marilyn Coleman, Stepfamily Relationships: Development, Dynamics, and Interventions (New York: Kluwer Academic, 2004), 68.)
  • Getting premarital therapy tailored to the blended family experience, stands to assume benefits to relationship quality and lowering odds of divorce – though no research, to my knowledge, has been done on outcomes for pre-blended couples.

Is there any support offered alongside the course?

Yes – you’ll be able to book one complimentary 1:1 session, it’s recommended you complete the program first as this gives us the chance to focus on your family’s specific situation and questions, building on everything you’ve already learned in the program. Additional sessions may be booked for a fee.

Should I work through this with my partner or individually?

Either way will help you understand more about being part of a blended family, and working through with your partner is an added benefit in aligning yourselves as a blended couple and gaining common knowledge and a common language to discuss blended issues. A key ingredient to building blended families is understanding other family member’s emotional experiences in order to find solutions that work for each person’s feelings and needs.

Can you guarantee a smooth transition into marriage after taking this course?

Blended families are uniquely complicated and I cannot guarantee your families happiness. What I can guarantee is you’ll gain insight, knowledge and strategies to use in shaping the family life you want.

How is The Premartial Blended Blueprint different from the Brief Blended Blueprint and The Complete Blended Blueprint?

The Premarital Blended Blueprint is a short course giving an overview of the challenges, stages and strategies for a blended family. The Complete Blended Blueprint is a master course covering all dynamics for blended families and the Brief Blended Blueprint focuses solely on the 8 stages of blended family development.

What’s the difference between therapy and coaching?

Therapy utilizes your past and discovers how that’s affecting your current life and creating strife. Coaching is strictly strategic and solution focused toward the future.

What’s the difference between fighting and domestic violence/intimate partner violence and does therapy help domestic violence?
  • While all relationships are different the biggest factor is feeling safe in your home and without fear. Blended families have the insider/outsider dynamic causing stepparents to feel like they don’t belong, but does not leave them feeling unsafe with their partner or others in the home.
  • Couple’s therapy will not help domestic violence – interpersonal therapy, anger management, cognitive behavioral therapy are types of therapy recommended for the violent partner to break their cycle. PTSD, cognitive behavioral therapy are types of therapy that can help victims of intimate partner violence. The National Domestic Violence Hotline is 1-800-799-7233 or text BEGIN to 88788, the National Domestic Violence website is thehotline.org
Do I have to complete the course to access the 1:1 session?

No, but it’s recommended that you do. The program gives you a really helpful foundation – it helps you understand what’s normal in blended families and why certain challenges come up. That way, when we meet 1:1, we can dive straight into what’s going on in your family, rather than spending time on the basics. It means you’ll get more out of your session and more personalised support.

* The research is clear: premarital education works. In general the average couple sees a 30 percent increase in relationship quality and it lowers the annual odds of divorce by 31 percent.

No research, to my knowledge, has been done on outcomes for pre-blended couples. But it stands to reason, that if pre-martial education is effective for regular couples it will be effective for blended couples.
